How much firewood do I need?
The right amount of firewood depends on how often you light your fire, what type of fire you have, and how much you can store. Here's a simple guide — then take our free Firewood Questionnaire and we'll confirm the exact plan for your home.
Quick answer: Most UK households use between 16 and 64 nets of firewood a year. Occasional burners need around 16 nets, regular burners around 32, frequent burners around 48, and homes relying on their fire as a primary heat source around 64 nets.
Match your usage to an annual amount
Pick the description that sounds most like your household. These are the annual firewood quantities we recommend before confirming your storage and delivery preferences.
Occasional
Weekends and special occasions.
16 nets

A single delivery of 16 nets sees most occasional burners through a winter.
Regular
Most weekends and some evenings.
32 nets
per year
32 nets across the year — in one delivery or split into two smaller drops.
Frequent
Several evenings each week throughout winter.
48 nets
per year
48 nets a year, split into three smaller deliveries or a single Large Crate.
Primary Heat Source
We rely on our stove or fire most days throughout winter.
64 nets
per year
64 nets a year — one larger delivery, two medium, or an XL Crate if you have the space.
Wood burner or open fire?
Your appliance changes which firewood we recommend. Wood-burning stoves are efficient and work beautifully with either Economy or Premium wood. Open fires are less efficient, so we always supply Premium — it burns longer and hotter with far less smoke.

Choose Economy (Birch & Alder — excellent value, easy to light) or Premium (Oak, Ash & Birch — longer burning, higher heat).
Open fire
We always recommend Premium Oak, Ash & Birch. Economy Birch & Alder burns too quickly on an open fire, so Premium gives a longer, hotter burn with less smoke — the best fit for your setup.
Economy or Premium firewood?
Both are kiln-dried hardwoods, fully ready to burn. The difference is the species mix and how they perform.
Economy
Birch & Alder · Excellent value · Easy to light
A great everyday firewood that lights easily and burns cleanly. Ideal for wood-burning stoves used regularly through the winter.
Premium
Oak, Ash & Birch · Longer burning · Higher heat output
Denser hardwoods that burn for longer and throw out more heat per net. The right choice for open fires and for stove owners who want the longest, hottest burn.
Nets or a crate?
How your firewood arrives is just as important as how much you order. Both options are available in the annual quantities above.
Nets
Stacked on a pallet
Easy-to-handle nets, stacked neatly on a pallet for simple storage. In our own delivery areas we offer a free stacking service and will take the pallet away. Available in 16, 32, 48 and 64 net annual quantities.
Loose within a crate
Best value per m³
Stacked loose within a wooden crate — the best value per cubic metre. Fulfilled by a third-party pallet network with a kerbside delivery, so smooth and flat ground is required. Only offered where you have moderate or plenty of storage.
A few other things we consider
Storage space
Limited storage? We'll split your annual amount into smaller, more frequent deliveries. Plenty of room? A crate or one larger delivery is better value.
Chimney care
In our own delivery areas you can add an annual chimney sweep and stove service to your plan, carried out by NACS-certified sweeps.
Monthly cost
Whatever amount you need, we spread the cost evenly across 12 months — so there's no large winter firewood bill.
